On Sunday afternoon, a catastrophe occurred during the Las Vegas Raiders’ training camp exercise. The Raiders made their first practice field appearance a few days after defeating the Houston Texans in a preseason game. Sadly, great running back Ashton Jeanty is said to have left due to a severe leg injury.Ashton Jeanty, a running back with the Raiders, departed practice early due to an apparent knee injury, according to Ryan McFadden of ESPN. “He landed awkwardly while diving for a catch during the team period. Trainers assisted him off the field and prevented him from applying any pressure to his right leg. The entire group prayed while on their knees.

At this point, the precise type and extent of the injuries remain unknown. The Raiders did not immediately release a statement.

Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty appears to have a major knee injury, so he departs practice.

The news from Las Vegas is simply terrible. It’s clear that the injury was serious enough to cause the team to halt practice, which is unusual for an ankle sprain or jammed finger. It doesn’t seem good, and these coaches and players have enough experience to know what’s going on.

Of course, there could always be a positive report, and perhaps Jeanty and the Raiders were spared catastrophe. In any case, even if he doesn’t miss the entire 2026 NFL season, the young, talented running back may miss some time. There are still a lot of unknowns.

Despite a terrible offensive environment overall, Jeanty continued to produce well as a rookie and was on the verge of having a breakthrough year. But those ideas must wait until we hear more about his condition.

Mike Washington Jr., a rookie selected in the fourth round, is next in line to start at running back in Las Vegas because he was already vying for reps and a significant role. However, a first-year player selected on Day 3 will bear a lot of responsibility if Jeanty is sidelined for an extended length of time.

The Raiders might have to add something to the room if Jeanty is actually going to be gone for a long period. John Spytek may need to search the waiver wire or look for possible low-stakes transactions prior to the season because the veteran market is currently small.
