181 loft apartments are being added to the Judson Mill District.

The last two historic structures, the Jenny and Westervelt, will be converted into 181 loft apartments, according to the Judson Mill District. The $60 million project completes the rehabilitation of Judson Mill and will add about 170,000 square feet of residential space.

With a combined investment of over $100 million, Belmont Sayre, Taft Family Ventures, and Madrock Advisors have converted nearly 800,000 square feet of historic buildings into office, restaurant, brewery, retail, entertainment, and residential spaces since the project at the century-old textile mill started in 2019.

According to Thomas F. Taft, Jr., principal of Taft Family Ventures, “the new apartments will feature a blend of historic charm and contemporary amenities, enhancing the diverse offerings within the Judson Mill District.” “A variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment options will be accessible to residents, all within a short distance from downtown Greenville.”

The building of the apartments, which have a range of floor plans from studio to three-bedroom, is expected to be finished in Q2 2025, and leasing will begin in early 2025.

The Jenny building, also referred to as the “Twister Building,” was crucial to the manufacturing of yarn, while the Westervelt building—originally the front of the mill—was crucial in turning cotton into thread.

A number of important partners, including Self Help Credit Union, CommunityWorks, Lincoln Savings Bank, Foss & Company, Stonehenge Capital, Taft Family Ventures, Belmont Sayre, and Madrock Advisors, have worked together to make the project possible.
